TO LESSEN PAY DISRUPTIONS ...

December 7th, 2005
To: For those on Educationals
Subject: To lessen pay disruption while on union educationals

While attending union educationals there is paperwork you must ensure is complete in order to have as little disruption as possible with your pay. As we all know this is first and foremost in our minds and managers create more problems then they solve in this dept.

First, Full and Part-Timers apply for leave WITH PAY or PAID also know as 'Union Billed'. Management will bill National (CUPW) and they in turn will bill Breton #117 for the hours. Breton's Secretary Treasurer will make a cheque out to CPC and the local will also top up the wages for the part-timers to 8 hours per day (Except Saturday and Sunday, unless that individual is scheduled to work.) This happens out of view of the member and is recorded as lost wages.

If the educational is sponsored by National or under a specific appendix then the student, primarily Temps, MAY get a cheque while 'On site' of the educational.

Part Timers: ensure the green, CPC, leave form has been completed as 'Union Billed' for PT scheduled hours (ie. 3.5 Hrs/day) and the days you will be on course. Contact Sec. Treasurer after the educational for the TOP UP to eight hours for a regular working day while on course.

Temps: ensure your fill out a green, CPC, form stating union leave UNPAID. This is so that it will not be counted as a missed opportunity to work. Then contact Sec. Treasurer after the course to get a cheque for the full eight-hour day while on course (If not already paid while on course.)

Full Timers: ensure you do the necessary paperwork as stated above and you should not notice any change on your paycheque.

Also…ensure your individual managers have an authorization form from the local (See Executive Reps.) that states you have permission from the local to go on this course. Take a copy of this with you just to be safe.

Be wary of anything the manager does regarding your pay! If you are not sure how a manager is recording your leave…ASK him or her. As of late there seems to be some problem with the new managers not understanding the process. If you cannot educate your manager in this STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE, detail everything and don't hesitate to contact me. It is imperative that any member receive their 8 hr/day pay while on course. Only YOU can make this happen.

Secretary Treasurer, #117 Breton local
Robert Garnier, 549-0082
