Lew introduced Allen James who then addressed the Committee explaining his purpose being here and his general responsibilities. Lew advised he and Allen would be visiting New Waterford, Glace Bay and North Sydney Friday Nov. 17/06 to do a general safety inspection of each of these facilities, including the Sydney MPP.

OLD BUSINESS:

NORTH SYDNEY:

  • The issue re a step van or right hand drive vehicle or alternative solution for Mobile # 7 is still on the table with Route Measurement who advise they should be able to address the issue in the fall.
  • A new ERGO lift has been supplied.

GLACE BAY:

SYDNEY:

  • The issue with over-assessed Letter Carrier routes is still on the table with Route Measurement.
  • Packeteer is available but is not yet mounted on a secure surface.

  • Two binnies badly worn and unsafe - one is a C-2, the other a C-3. They will be taken out of service and replacement is required.

45660 - June 5/06 - Employee states over a period of time he developed pain in lower back and down right leg. Now he has pain in his jaw and numbness in both arms. No loss of time to date.
CORRECTIVE ACTION - to be monitored.

44930 - June 5/06 - IOD as a result of stress brought on, he claims, as a result of confrontation between he and Supervisor.
CORRECTIVE ACTION - to be monitored.

45361 - June 5/06 - Employee claims sore foot from walking since May 10/06. Saw Doctor on May 18/06.
CORRECTIVE ACTION - monitor.

49536 - June 27/06 - Same employee as above. Recurrence of previous condition. Unable to work as of July 28/06. As of this date (Sept 12/06) this employee is still on modified duties.
CORRECTIVE ACTION - under Nurse's care.

43287 - April 10/06 - Employee claims to have injured his shoulder lifting a bag of mail off a C-8 cart - no loss of time.
CORRECTIVE ACTION - reminder of proper lifting techniques.

43960 - May 2/06 - RSMC fell on ice at a SMB - broke wrist bone and pulled shoulder and neck muscles - also sort left knee.
CORRECTIVE ACTION - maintain attention to conditions.

44199 - May 3/06 - Painful knee. Employee claims recurrence of IOD in March 2005, and again in Sept. 2005.
CORRECTIVE ACTION - unknown.

48261 - July 12/06 - Employee claims to have fallen over a rock twisting left ankle.
CORRECTIVE ACTION - reminder to be vigilant.

50154 - Aug 1/06 - Employee twisted knee while on his walk.
CORRECTIVE ACTION - reminder to be vigilant.

49011 - July 14/06 - Employee claims sore back getting worse.
CORRECTIVE ACTION - physio and monitor.

48914 - July 22/06 - Employee claims sore right shoulder - no specific incident.
CORRECTIVE ACTION - monitor.

49315 - July 31/06 - Dog bite. Several punctures on right hand - no stitches.
CORRECTIVE ACTION - exercise vigilance.

48152 - July 7/06 - Employee fell down private staircase because of an irregular sized step - injured left wrist and lower back - mail was cut off pending repair.
CORRECTIVE ACTION - as above.

51220 - Aug 31/06 - Employee slipped on wet steps at private residence - sore back.
CORRECTIVE ACTION - ensure proper footwear and vigilance.

44905 - May 11/06 - Employee slipped on wet grass next to the sidewalk - rolled his ankle.
CORRECTIVE ACTION - proper footwear, slow down.
