CUPW Life Insurance Booklet

December 7th, 2005
To: Temporary Members in Urban Postal Operations

Dear Sister or Brother,

Subject: CUPW Life Insurance Booklet

All workers should have free universal health care plans that provide health, medical, drug, dental, vision and hearing plans. As they work towards this goal, unions strive to bring these important benefits to their members. Over the years, our union - the Canadian Union of Postal Workers - has successfully negotiated with Canada Post to win and improve a comprehensive set of benefit plans for permanent employees in the urban operations unit.

As you know, temporary workers are not entitled to many of the rights and benefits that apply to permanent employees- CUPW has improved the situation of temporary workers over the years, and we will continue this struggle in the future.

Attached you will find a copy of the union's booklet on the CUPW Life Insurance Plan.

All members in good standing (MILS) are entitled to the CUPW Life Insurance Plan. You are a member in good standing if you signed a CUP W membership card, pay your union dues and are actively at work (or on an approved leave).

CUPW Life Insurance is one of the benefits of membership in our union.

All members in good standing are covered for the basic life insurance under this plan. Basic coverage begins on the date yon became a member of CUPW, providing you were actively at work. However, you should still fill out an application to indicate whom you would like to get the insurance money in the event of your death. Also, you may want to buy some additional, optional coverage.

The basic insurance coverage costs you nothing. If you buy additional optional coverage you will have to pay monthly premiums. See the booklet for details. The CUPW Life Insurance Plan is looked after by a company called Coughlin & Associates. If you need any of the forms that apply to this plan, or wish to buy additional coverage, call the Coughlin office or go to their website. You can find contact information for Coughlin at the end of the enclosed booklet.

We published the benefits information in a fill-page format which is suited to downloading from the Internet. You'll see that each page is numbered and dated. We will update the booklets to reflect changes to the plan or collective agreements. The most recent version of this booklet will always be available on the CUPW website.

In solidarity,

Signed George Floresco
